How can I support VyOS on a fast network?

This overview will walk you with the process of establishing a web server running VyOS on a personal network.

VDS with this system are often made use of as routers as well as routers, they have the capacity to configure VPN networks of various types as well as arrangements.

Setup

After attaching the VPS to the local network via the control board, connect to the server via ssh and also go to the VyOS setup mode:

Note: in normal mode, some utilities are not available, and the command line prompt ends with the $ (dollar) symbol, and in the configuration mode, with the # (pound sign) symbol.

Display all available interfaces:

show interfaces

ethernet eth0 {
     address <external ip-address>/24
     duplex auto
     hw-id <mac-address eth0>
     smp_affinity auto
     speed auto

 ethernet eth1 {

     hw-id <mac-address eth1>
     smp_affinity auto
     speed auto
 }

Use the set command to set the value of the local ip address, if the DHCP option is disabled on the network , then specify the address from the control panel in the settings of your VPS as the value (see image below):

set interfaces ethernet eth1 address <ip-адрес>/24

For example:

set interfaces ethernet eth1 address 10.0.0.4/24

When the DHCP option is enabled, do the following:

set interfaces ethernet eth1 address dhcp

Note: If the execution fails, try adding the current user to the superuser group, such as usermod -a -G root <userName>.

Check the changes:

show interfaces

ethernet eth1 {
+    address /<dhcp>
     duplex auto
     hw-id 00:50:56:01:1b:9f
     smp_affinity auto
     speed auto
 }
 loopback lo {
 }

 

Changed lines are marked with a + sign.

If everything is correct, commit and save the changes:

commit
save

Exit configuration mode:

exit

Check the configured local ip address of the VyOS interface:

show interfaces

Now you can use the configured machine as a router or another private network node.
